The Episcopal Church of Sudan

An email stategy for the Province of Sudan

Provision

Any official in any Diocese (or on the Provincial staff) can (and should) be issued with an official email address. This is both more secure than a Yahoo! or Hotmail type system and it better reflects your official standing.

These addresses are in the standard format of: [postholder]@[diocese].anglican.org
(or, for Provincial staff; [postholder]@sudan.anglican.org)

See here a list of the list of posts to be used

While iIt is possible simply to forward all messages to [postholder]@[diocese].anglican.org to an existing (perhaps Yahoo) address, this is not recommended. Though there may seem to be advantages to this (it does not involve the recipient making any changes to their system), it means that they will still not be sending mails with that “official @[diocese].anglican.org address and it does not address the insecurities of a free email system such as Yahoo.

Mail that is stored on the server can be retrieved in two ways .  As a general rule, it is better to chose one or the other and not to mix the two – that way, you can lose emails between the two systems!

  • Webmail You use this in very much the same way as with Yahoo.  Visit your Diocesan website from any computer in the world.  Click on the Webmail link in the Administration menu and type in your email address and password.
  • Mailboxes  Using a dedicated program on your computer is often a far better way to read your mail, particularly if you are likely only to read mail on one computer; either a desktop machine in an office or on a laptop that you carry with you.

Some more detailed guidelines for connecting to your email are given below.

Your personal settings

Before you can use your email account, you will need to be issi=ued with a User Name and a Password. The User Name will be your full email address: [postholder]@[diocese].anglican.org and the password will be in numbers and in UPPER and lower case letters. The case does matter! "Password" id seen as being different from "passWord"
